The nose is the central part of the face, which means it can attract attention if it’s too large or slightly asymmetrical. Small changes to the nose can greatly impact a patient’s self-confidence and sense of beauty. While patients often request rhinoplasty (nose job) surgery at my Frisco, TX, practice to fix common issues (nasal bump, a boxy or bulbous tip, or asymmetry), that does not mean all modern rhinoplasties look exactly the same.
I ascribe to the modern thought process that everyone’s ideal nose is unique to their facial features and ideal aesthetic vision. This philosophy is reflected in our patients’ personalized rhinoplasty results.
What is the perfect nose?
In the past, many rhinoplasty patients requested the same type of adjustments: remove bumps, make the nose smaller, and create a sloping bridge. A ‘ski-slope’ nose was considered the most conventionally attractive look. As a result of so many people looking for the same style, rhinoplasty gained a reputation for producing cookie-cutter results that made it evident someone ‘had work done.’
At Lone Star Plastic Surgery, my team and I avoid the “Mr. or Mrs. Potato Head approach,” where everyone gets the same nose. Due to recent trends, more patients than ever are seeking ‘tweakments’—small adjustments during rhinoplasty that offer subtle enhancements to the nose’s appearance. While symmetry and proportion remain ideals of most rhinoplasty procedures, many patients prefer to preserve some unique characteristics of their noses, producing a more naturally attractive shape.
How much can a nose job change?
Rhinoplasty requires a keen and well-trained aesthetic eye, as small changes can have a major impact on the final result and your overall look. The margin for a successful rhinoplasty can be measured in millimeters. To deliver optimal results, a surgeon has to deliver a harmonious nose that is consistent with a patient’s existing facial features. During your consultation, and even the day of your surgery, I have you list the three things you want to change, or improve upon, with nose surgery. This is an exercise to make sure everyone benefits from an individualized rhinoplasty treatment plan. Instead of creating the textbook perfect nose, we tailor treatment your unique facial anatomy and aesthetic goals. In our view, if your “new nose” doesn’t correspond with your ideal vision, the surgery is not a success.
Skill, Training & Experience Matter
